Congratulations on planning ahead and preparing yourself for your FRESH 48 Session! Having a Newborn is exciting in so many ways! Its true, they grow so quickly! I'm so glad you're documenting your baby's first few days as a family!
Usually, FRESH 48 session take place at the hospital (or where you deliver). They're referred as FRESH 48 since its the first 48 hours of your child's life. So since most hospitals prefer monitoring mom and baby for about 48 hours, FRESH 48 takes place at the hospital.
I want to give you few insights on how to prepare yourself, and your family, for your session.
What to bring
Make sure you pack some Neutral colored clothing. Earth tone for tops look great in photos! When looking at the end result, I want to keep the focus on you and your family, complicated patterns on your clothing can take the focus off your family sometimes. {Ideas: White/soft colored robe, nursing cami with light sweater...keep in mind you might be nursing during our session and need to have an easy top}.
Don't forget your makeup bag, and any hair styling tools you use. Take a few minutes and prepare yourself. Lip-balm, mascara and some blush can go a long way in making you feel refreshed!
Now that you're packing your own outfit, make sure you pack something for your husband (and children) - Your outfits don't have to match, on the contrary, I'd like to see your outfits work together in soft tones rather than be exactly the same.
How I shoot
What I look for during your session is Natural Light. I will find the best spot for the maximum amount of sunlight and take as many photos there as possible. Trust me! They'll look great! You'll have some photos in your room and some outside of your room depending on sunlight.
Your room
Simplicity is KEY! Decluttering the room is important in order to keep the photos pointing towards you! Think travel bag, diaper bag, carseat, water bottles, balloons, flowers, shoes... Since most hospital rooms are not that spacious to start with, you'll probably have all these items i just mentioned around the room. This is your happy spot for the next 48hrs. I will help you declutter as we find great light during your session.
Our time
Fresh 48 can take about 2 hours - they'll be some feeding during, some diapers to change, and some more feeding. If possible, start nursing your newborn about 10-15 minutes before our session starts.
Oh, Baby!
Pack a few outfits for your newborn. If you were packing three outfits for your newborn for example, let two of them be neutrals and one could be something fun you love and relate to! This could be stronger bolder colors, florals, prints...etc. Pack your favorite little details too! Hair accessories, a special knit hat by grandma, your handwritten letter to your child...etc. These little details will be used during the session while we take photos of baby alone.
