Strong like Mom

Few weeks ago, I heard someone say: “Oh, come on! Don’t be a girl!”

A woman brought you into this world. And let me tell you, that takes allot of strength. She is STRONG. There is nothing ordinary about being a woman, there is nothing “girly” about delivering a child. There is nothing soft about being a mother. It’s a tough job.

When I asked my friend and photographer Stephanie Madison to take my Fresh 48 pictures, I knew exactly what I wanted my newborn son to wear. A reminder for myself hours after giving birth, of a great victory that day. And and a reminder for him in the future as well: Women are strong, in all their shapes, titles and sizes.

If someone calls you “a Girl”. It’s an honor. Not an insult.
We need to work on changing some mindsets. “Don’t be a girl” has to go.
