I said Cheese! | Aleen Karakashian Photography | Gwinnett County Photographer | Best of Gwinnett

Okay, I really didn't.
I didn’t say ‘cheese’.
And I actually don’t ask anyone in front of my lens to say ‘cheese’ either!

All that to say - I am in pictures too! I got in front of the camera with my son Joseph recently.
You might think, because I’m a photographer, I have enough pictures already - but I don’t think so! I need more! My kids are growing up way too fast and I almost feel like I need to record every minute of every day to pause those moments and relive them again and again.

Isn’t that one beauty we find in photography? We get to live that moment again, and actually we are somehow reminded of the days surrounding that moment too, not just the 30 minutes or so spent in front of the camera.

With those timeless photographs, I not only remember the long thick hair he had or the big yawn, but I also remember how he had just learned to play ‘patty cake’ with me. The struggle with wanting to get home fast so he could nap in his crib, his love to being held all the time, rushing through traffic to pick up my daughter from preschool, having plenty of mid-day coffee cups. I remember motherhood. I remember that I really was there (I still am there!), and my child could see how we spent time together. I might remember everything as he grows and tell him all about it, but wouldn’t it mean even more when he could hold an album in his hands and go through seasons of his life in pictures, hear stories, and relate to his past in a more tangible way?

Using as many of our 5 senses as possible as we tell a story, brings memories back to life. For both myself, and my children.
and I want that for you too.

History Maker,
Aleen Karakashian
